Stephen Sprouse

I mean do I need to say more than Stephen Sprouse at Doran Grey Gallery?

The Normandie Exhibition

It’s so rare to be able to be emersed in such an excellent time period like I was for this exhibit. It was an absolute blast to do. We got to pick fantastic colors for the decks and walls of the vitrines and create huge photo blow-ups and super-graphics. The archives I went through to find the images were really phenominal. I worked closely with the lender for this exhibit, Mario Pulice, who was amazing to work with. Check out the type and lit cases which were my two favorite parts of this show. The exhibition will be up at the Seaport Museum New York for the next few months.

FOUR PROJECTS

I created this poster and ad campaign for a new group gallery show. The typeface is one of my new favorites called NuOrder from You Work For Them. I mean the name alone is reason to use it.

S.S. NORMANDIE

These are some of the design materials that went along with the new exhibit: DECODENCE / Legendary Interiors and Illustrious Travelers Aboard The S.S. Normandie, which I did exhibition design for as well with Sandra Hirshkowitz, for the Seaport Museum. I did everything from a capsule website for the exhibit to advertising and custom wallpaper for our partners Lalique and Jeremy Scott. Take a look at this snapshot of the varied graphics created.

FDR AND THE SEA

I worked with Sandra Hirshkowitz for Rack and Pinion to help create this show of FDR’s collection of nautical objects for the Seaport Museum. The show really turned out great. I love they way all the exhibition graphics and blow-ups turned out. The white cut vinyl type on the matte black backgrounds really transformed the museum.

The Center for Architecture – Exhibition of K-12 Design Work

This annual exhibition of K-12 explorations into the built environment showcases models and drawings from Learning By Design:NY, a school based residency program, as well as work from our youth programs at the Center for Architecture. Check out the Charlie Brown Christmas tree signs and the amazing stencils I commissioned from Ed Roth at stencil1.com. I tried to do Pee Wee’s Playhouse meets The Shins- Chutes to Narrow cover.

The Foundation For Architecture

I designed these graphics to go with a brilliantly designed exhibit of kids architectural work. The idea was to have the graphics be as crafty as the handywork of the K through 6-ers. 1110:Architect designed the web system that was as strong as it was subtle.

The Fashion of Architecture

I created these exhibition graphics for Sophie at the Center For Architecture. They are silk-screen graphics on a sheer white synthetic material. I love how they are draped over the air-craft cable hanging system.

The Center For Architecture

I designed this exhibition for the New Housing: New York design competition at the Center For Architecture. The focus of the event was to find a good and green architectural template for affordable housing. We created a two story graphic time-line depicting the history of housing in New York City.
